The Order of Worship

Voluntary Pastor Brad Napier

Announcements and Welcome Elder Toni Stokes, Liturgist

Call to Worship (Responsive) - Psalm 145

I will extol you, my God and King, and bless your name forever and ever.

Every day I will bless you, and praise your name forever and ever.

Great is the Lord, and greatly to be praised; his greatness is unsearchable.

God’s people shall celebrate the fame of your abundant goodness, and

shall sing aloud of your righteousness.

All your works shall give thanks to you, O Lord, and all your faithful shall bless you.

Let us worship, praise, and thank the Lord, our God.

*Hymn #267 - Come, Christians, Join to Sing

Prayer of Confession (Unison)

God of steadfast love, we have forsaken you, and find ourselves exiled - far from the

land of promise. We yearn to return to your dwelling place, to our true and abiding

home. Forgive our sins, and remove all that separates us from the place you have

prepared for us. We would be your holy people. By your Holy Spirit, cleanse us

and renew us, so that we may honor and serve you well, for the sake of Jesus Christ,

our Lord and Savior.

And now, Lord, I confess specifically.....(silent prayers)

Assurance of Pardon (responsive) - Philippians 3

Yet whatever gains I had, these I have come to regard as loss because of Christ.

In order that I may gain Christ and be found in him, not having a

righteousness of my own that comes from the law, but one that comes

through faith in Christ.

I press on toward the goal for the prize of the heavenly call of God in Jesus Christ.

But our citizenship is in heaven, and it is from there that we are expecting

a Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ.

In the name of Jesus Christ, I declare that our sins are forgiven.

Thanks be to God. AMEN.

Passing of the Peace

The peace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you.

And also with you.

*Hymn #333 - How Our Hearts with Joy Abound

Pastoral Prayer and The Lord’s Prayer

The Old Testament Lesson Nehemiah 10:35-39

The Word of the Lord.

Thanks be to God.

The Gospel Luke 11:37-44

The Gospel of the Lord

Praise be to you, O Christ.

The Sermon “The Greater Obligation” Pastor Brad Napier

“For I desire steadfast love and not sacrifice,

the knowledge of God rather than burnt offerings.” Hosea 6:6

“Love, and you are a success whether or not the world thinks so. The highest

purpose of Christianity - which is primarily a way of life, not a system of belief -

is to love one another. And the first fruit of love is joy, the joy that represents

meaning and fulfillment.”

-The Rev. William Sloane Coffin, Credo

*Note: The Session has voted to move the worship service into the

Fellowship Hall through late March, 2018. This action was

taken due to the cost of heating the Sanctuary during the

winter.

Each Sunday through the winter, there will be coffee, juice and

doughnuts available in the kitchen/fellowship hall at 10:30 am. This

will allow for a time of fellowship before our worship service. Pastor

Napier will provide the doughnuts and juice through today. If you

would like to provide for this fellowship, there is a sign-up sheet

available in the kitchen.

Please continue to bring soup, peanut butter and other food items for

the “Feeding My Sheep” Food Pantry. We will collect these items

through mid-February.
